One of the basic limitations for using MWD tools is their sophistication. They are designed to sense efficiently and work proficiently and that is why, highly sensitive sensors are used in them. Once the MWD tools fell down to ground or in the hole, it gets damaged most of the time. It is then impossible to retrieve information from that damaged piece. So MWD tools are to be installed and used with high care as the whole information of drilling operation is stored in it, one can’t simply put that on stake.
